Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you work with?

I work with creative people who want to build a business around running workshops. You might be an artist, florist, potter, baker, photographer, illustrator, maker or another kind of creative. Whether you're planning your very first workshop or you've been running workshops for years, I'd love to help.

I've never run a workshop before. Can I still work with you?

Absolutely! Lots of the people I work with are right at the beginning of their workshop journey. If you've got a skill you'd love to teach but no idea where to start, we can work through everything from planning your first workshop to pricing, finding a venue and getting those first bookings. You definitely don't need to have everything figured out before getting in touch.

I've already been running workshops. Is mentoring still for me?

Definitely. You might be struggling to fill your workshops, wondering whether you're charging enough or feeling like you've got loads of ideas but no time to actually do anything with them. I've worked with creative business owners at all sorts of stages, and there's always something we can look at together.

What's the difference between your mentoring sessions?

I offer three different ways to work with me, depending on how much support you're looking for.

The Untangle (£100) is a one-hour session where we can talk through a particular challenge, explore an idea or work out what you need to do next.

The Big Sort Out (£350) gives us four hours to take a proper look at your business and actually get some things done together. It's ideal if you've got a few different areas you'd like help with or you're ready to make some changes.

Work in Progress (£250 per month) is for people who'd like ongoing support. We'll meet every month, and you'll have someone to ask questions, talk through ideas and help you stay on track between sessions.

How do I know which mentoring session is right for me?

If there's something specific you'd like help with, I'd probably suggest starting with The Untangle. If you've got lots of things you'd like to work on and want some dedicated time to tackle them, The Big Sort Out might be a better fit. And if you'd like regular support as you build your business, Work in Progress is worth considering.

If you're still not sure, you're always welcome to book a free Virtual Cuppa and we can have a chat about it.

What's a Virtual Cuppa?

A Virtual Cuppa is a free 15 minute chat where we can get to know each other, talk a little about your business and see whether working together would be a good fit. There's absolutely no pressure to book anything afterwards, and you don't need to arrange a Virtual Cuppa before booking The Untangle or The Big Sort Out. It's just there if you'd like to have a chat first.

What happens during The Untangle?

The Untangle is an hour that's completely focused on you and your business. You might want to talk about your workshop pricing, get some advice on marketing, explore a new idea or ask me a few questions you've been struggling to answer. There's no set agenda. When you book, I'll ask you a couple of questions about your business and what you'd like help with so I can have a look beforehand. We'll then spend our hour talking things through and figuring out some practical next steps.

What happens during The Big Sort Out?

The Big Sort Out is a four hour mentoring session where we can really get stuck into your business. Before we meet, I'll ask you some questions about what you're working on and what you'd like to achieve. That way, we can make the most of our time together. We might look at your pricing, marketing, website, workshop offers or anything else that's been on your mind. The difference with The Big Sort Out is that we have time to actually work on things together rather than just talk about them. My aim is for you to finish with a clearer plan and some of the work already done.

What is Work in Progress?

Work in Progress is my ongoing mentoring programme for creative workshop business owners who'd like regular support. We'll have a two hour mentoring session each month, and you'll also be able to message me on WhatsApp between our calls when you need some advice or a second opinion. We'll work towards whatever goals are important to you, whether that's getting more bookings, making your workshops more profitable or finding a better balance between your business and everything else in your life. If you're interested in ongoing mentoring, get in touch and we can have a chat about whether it's right for you.

Do I need a big Instagram following?

Not at all! Some of the most successful workshop businesses are built through local communities, word of mouth, partnerships and repeat customers. A large following can be helpful, but it's definitely not essential. There are lots of ways to attract people to your workshops, and we can figure out which ones make the most sense for your business.

Will you tell me exactly what to do?

I'll always share what's worked for me and what I've learned from mentoring other creative business owners, but I don't believe there's one right way to build a workshop business. Some people want to run workshops full-time, while others are perfectly happy running one or two a month alongside another job or family commitments. My job isn't to tell you what your business should look like. It's to help you figure out what you want and how to make it happen.

Is this only for craft workshops?

No! Although my own background is in creative workshops, I work with all kinds of workshop hosts. Whether you teach pottery, painting, floristry, photography, baking, textiles or another creative skill, you're very welcome here.

How much does mentoring cost?

There are three options:

  • The Untangle: £100 for a one-hour mentoring session.

  • The Big Sort-Out: £350 for a four-hour intensive.

  • Work in Progress: £250 per month for ongoing mentoring.

You can find out more about each option on my Work With Me page.

How do I book and pay for a session?

You can book The Untangle or The Big Sort Out directly through my website. Simply choose the session you'd like, select a date and time that works for you and pay securely when booking. You'll receive a confirmation email with everything you need to know before we meet. For Work in Progress, please get in touch first so we can have a chat about what you're looking for.

Do we meet online or in person?

The Untangle and The Big Sort Out are currently available online via Google Meet, so it doesn't matter where you're based. If you're local to West Yorkshire and would prefer to meet in person, feel free to get in touch and we can see what's possible.

What if I need to cancel or rearrange my session?

I know plans sometimes change! If you need to rearrange your session, please let me know as soon as possible. You'll find the cancellation and refund policy when you book, including the notice periods for rescheduling. Your statutory cancellation rights still apply.

How do I get started?
